Baobab Jungle are very excited about being involved in this project with And Albert. The Sewing centre at Kumbungu has been a long term interest of mine since meeting And Albert in 2003.
In March 2012 we traveled to Kumbungu in Northern Ghana to set up the workshop. The sewing machines, which had all been kindly donated, had arrived and the ladies were eager to begin work. African Wax print fabrics were purchased in Accra and Kumasi and we had taken with us a large supply of threads, zips and other sewing notions and patterns.
All accomplished dressmakers, I spent some time with the ladies explaining my patterns and giving hints and tips on making the items we had chosen for our first order.
Once a sample of each was completed and quantity's decided the workshop was handed over to their care.
It's taken a long time to get to this stage but very exciting to see it all set up and the sewing machines being used again.
